Gathr Films Acquires Theatrical Rights to Can You Dig This

Documentary Championing the Urban Gardening Movement Opens in Theaters through Theatrical On Demand® December 1

Nov. 18, 2015 – Los Angeles – Can You Dig This opens in theaters on December 1, 2015, through Gathr Films Theatrical On Demand®. Gathr Films acquired theatrical rights to the film out of the 2015 LA Film Festival, where the film won the Jury award for its section. Can You Dig This is directed by Delila Vallot and executive produced by John Legend, who also wrote an original song for the film entitled “Skyway”. David Sitek, from the band TV On The Radio, composed the original score.

Can You Dig This explores the urban gardening revolution currently taking place in South Central Los Angeles, one of the largest food deserts in the country. The film follows five ‘gangster gardeners,’ all planting the seeds for a better life. Ron Finley, the main subject in the film, has become a well-known advocate for urban gardening around the country based on his popular TED Talk (HERE).

“Delila has created a tremendously engaging and entertaining look into the transformative power of community agriculture in Los Angeles,” said Jake Craven, Gathr Head of Acquisitions. “We were immediately drawn to Can You Dig This and its potential to be a spark plug for galvanizing individuals to come together to support local Urban Farms and Community Gardens in cities across the country. Gathr exists to engage passionate communities to come together around a Can You Dig This screening in theaters and become engaged with the film’s message in a way that otherwise might not have been possible.”

“We are so excited to be partnering with Gathr and could not think of a better partner to bring our film into theaters,” said director Delila Vallot. “Can You Dig This is all about self empowerment and Gathr’s platform empowers everyone across the country to help plant the seeds of change in their community. It’s old school grassroots for a new age.”

The film is produced by Rafael Marmor and Christopher Leggett of Delirio Films and Delila Vallot.  Grammy®, Academy® and Golden Globe® Award winner, John Legend, is executive producer along with Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius from his Get Lifted Film Co.
